Leader of the Year

This is my first year being a Jubilee Ringer. Something I learned about being a youth leader is to always help others. I love going to Jubilee because I love how we learn about God. I like ringing the bells and my favorite instrument to play is the piano. I’m grateful to have a music teacher like Ms. Rachel because she is always encouraging us and telling us to learn from our mistakes.

One thing I learned at Jubilee is to always follow God, to be wise, and to never be foolish. I learned to always trust in the Lord and he will trust in you. God is always with you because he was the one who created us. Ms. Rachel encourages me to be a dignified young leader and to always set an example for the younger kids. I love all the places we perform. We are able to let people see all the hard work we have been doing. I love all the games we play to help teach us more about music. I enjoy the Bible journal pages that teach us more about the Bible and we are able to get a chance to connect with God. We always pray at the end of every Jubilee class. I like having the prayer circle because it gives us a chance to apologize to God for all of our sins.

I was standing outside Jubilee at my bus stop with my little sister and my dad when Ms. Rachel went up to my dad and asked him if we would be interested in going to music class. The next day we went to the program and it was fun. All the hard work I put in was rewarding because at our last Christmas concert I received a $500 Youth Leading Youth gratuity. Ms. Rachel taught me to be a young leader, encouraged me to work harder, and to help others like the Bible verse, “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.“ This verse teaches me to be kind to others.

I learned about the Bible at Jubilee. I love how we do our Bible journal pages. They teach us more about the Bible and to connect with the Lord. My favorite Bible story is Noah’s ark. Noah was a blameless and righteous man. Noah was the only one who listened to the Lord while all the other people were not listening to the Lord. They were all being foolish. However, Noah knew if he followed the Lord he would go to heaven and God would trust him. God did and that's why Noah and his family were the only ones who survived the flood. This teaches me to always follow the Lord and to never be foolish because you never know when you are going to die, and life is short. God always wants us to be leaders and to always do the right thing.

I made Friends at Jubilee and I learned a lot of new things. These are the reasons why I love coming to Jubilee so much.

I have learned to be a Godly leader, because we are always talking about God. Everything we do is for God. Each week we get a Journal page that teaches us the different stories in the Bible. 0ne question was asked in my journal: when will the son of Man (Jesus) come back to earth? The answer is, no one knows but he comes at an hour we do not expect, you can find this in Matthew 24: 36-44. Our Journal page asks us to write A PROVERB A DAY, where you put a Bible verse, for example I wrote, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” you can find this in James 4 : 8. I have learned leadership is when Ms. Rachel is helping me with my piano song, I sit and follow directions, or being responsible when it’s time to put away the bells. We first wipe them down with a cloth, and put them in their cases.

I learned that leadership is being on time with activities and events, for example: the Christmas party at Ms. Rachel's house my family were the first there. My brother and I helped Ms. Rachel bring out her tables, and put the food on the tables. We also made Christmas cards for the nice ladies at Grace Bible Church and other Churches that supported Jubilee Music and bought Christmas presents for us. I have learned to be a good listener when an adult is speaking, and to sit quietly and be respectful and kind. We also performed at the Perkins Art Center, in Collinswood, New Jersey. We met nice people and we sang songs. There were many people there. I helped set up our instruments, the tables and cushions without anyone asking me to help. That's what a leader is and I enjoy doing this. I am still learning to be a better leader.

Ms. Rachel is a wonderful teacher and I’m truly proud to be her student. She is my favorite teacher. I have learned to appreciate the many blessings at Jubilee Music. It will always have a big impact in my life. A Leader through discipline is first believing in God! and always trusting him in my life. Jubilee has changed my life.

In conclusion, I would like to thank my parents. They are my heroes. They help when I need it. I also thank them for finding this Godly program, because being a leader will help me to learn more about GOD in my life. I would like to thank my village, My Aunt Joy and my Church Converge in Moorestown New Jersey. I am so thankful to everyone.

I love coming to Jubilee, seeing Ms. Rachel, and learning about God. I love coming in the door and getting wisdom and leaving out the door with wisdom. I just love how Ms. Rachel tries her best to teach us and I love how she treats us like we’re family. She is the best teacher I’ve ever had and a teacher I can never forget . She’s so caring and she loves us.

What I learned about being a leader this year is that good things come from wisdom, that we should always remember the Lord’s word, and that we should always respect the Lord for what he did for us. Some people don’t even care but we have to remember that Jesus died for our sins. We should be grateful that he did that for us. He did that because he loves us and because the world was full of sin. We should always respect him for what he did, and we should always be wise.

When I come to Jubilee it feels like we’re all family and we should make sure we’re following the Lord because one day The Lord could come and destroy the earth with fire. We should all want to be saved and be taken to a safe place. I just love how Ms. Rachel has a lot of energy even when it’s rainy or cloudy, she still keeps her head up high and always has a smile on her face.

I will never forget the memories that I’ve made with my friends at Jubilee and with Ms. Rachel. I just love coming into that door and getting wisdom and coming out of the door with a lot of knowledge that I’ve learned from Jubilee. We learn to be a leader and how to be dignified. Jubilee helps us be wise and to not go on the wrong path but it helps us get on the right path. I love this one Bible verse that helps keep me encouraged to never give up and the Bible verse is “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength” Philippians 4:13.

Melody Award Recpient

For the past two years I have been enjoying and playing for the Jubilee Ringers. I long to attain my scholarship and my dreams of becoming a professional piano player whose sounds are so sweet like a chariot adorned with silver and gold. I’ve learned a multitude of things during this year such as learning how to play songs with different types of beats in different types of clefs and when combined your music will sound divine. I’ve also gained knowledge about key components and terms used in music such as key changes, semitones, Da Capo, Dal Segno and so much more. Applying this knowledge, I learned that I can change the whole mood of the song.

I want to touch upon the message I received when I first joined Jubilee. Their programs enrich and cultivate youth in the way of salvation and in loving Jesus Christ Our Lord. It prompts us to gaze upon the wonder of the son of God Jehovah. Our theme for this awe inspiring year at Jubilee is, Be Wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. By completing and practicing daily proverbs and other things related in our weekly Bible journal pages, we are able to strengthen our bond, day by day, with the Lord. Wisdom comes from our fear of the Lord. James 3:17 says “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” This prompts us to be wise and stay wise in the eyes of the lord.

In addition to learning about the different components of music, I have also gained knowledge on leadership by engaging in the program. Leadership is a very important part of the Jubilee Enrichment program. It is intertwined with everything we do. We are encouraged to exhibit leadership qualities in every aspect of our daily living. A good leader possesses distinct qualities such as compassion, courage, integrity and respect. Courage is a necessity in leadership. You must have courage to do the right thing in any given situation even when it is unpopular.

Jubilee Music Enrichment has made me a better person. I am learning to follow God through music.

I have loved music for a long time so, it is natural to enjoy Jubilee Music Enrichment. The role of a young Ieader in Jubilee has taught me about God, and to trust him and to follow him. I have learned to understand the role and the responsibilities of being a leader. We get a Bible Journal on Saturday to take home and answer all the questions and in doing so it helps me to memorize the Bible verse. For example: 1 King 3:1-15 says Solomon asked the Lord for an understanding heart, and he gave him wisdom. When you follow the teaching of God through our lesson on Saturday in Jubilee, it gives me a new understanding heart. Joshua, knew that being obedient to the Lord and having complete trust in God was characteristic of a good and godly leader. As a young leader, I also have learned to welcome new students when they come to our program. I will ask them do they need help, show them how to turn on the piano and to bring out the bell. i introduce myself and tell them if you need any help, they can ask me

One event I have participated in, the Martin Luther Day Luncheon in Philadelphia, was wonderful. The Jubilee Ringers rang bells. Jubilee has shown me what it takes to put it together and get everyone in the right places in organizing it at the right time. I help bring in the music instruments, set up the tables. We also had a Christmas recital and the church was full with people and they enjoyed the event and so did I. I learned to be quiet and to follow directions as a leader.

In conclusion: Following these principles from Proverbs will guarantee success, and guarantee that God’s work will move forward. We are called to succeed and to be faithful to God’s principles of leadership. God will ensure the forward movement of His kingdom. I would like to thank Ms. Rachel for the love she shows each student, with kindness, patience and leadership. I love you so much. I would also like to thank everyone that supported me like my Aunt Joy. I love you so much, and last but not least my parents for your love and support.

Our Mission:

Cultivating Young Leaders through the

Discipline of Music Training

Our Vision

That our sons may be as great plants in their youth;

That our daughters may be as corner columns carved in the likeness of a palace;

That our storehouses may be full overflowing with all kinds of goods upon goods;

*That our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets;

That our leaders be strong bearers of burdens;

That there be no breaking in, nor going out into captivity;

That there be no crying in our streets;

Happy is that people, that is in such a case:

Yes, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord.

Psalms 144:12-15

*Sheep were an indication of wealth during the time of King David.

Our Inspiration

The project draws its inspiration from the Fisk Jubilee Singers a group of young African Americans, most of them former slaves, who through education and much discipline triumphed over oppression and severe obstacles. The Jubilee Singers cultivated their talents and introduced the world to the songs their parents

sang in slavery. The power of songs like “Steal Away,” “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord,” left unforgettable impressions upon their audiences. The message of these songs and the spirit in which they were presented melted the hearts of segregationist and opened doors of opportunity for their people. They were ambassadors who traveled the world and stood before, presidents, kings and queens with impeccable character and dignity.

Jubilee Music Enrichment challenges youth to emulate the dignity and discipline of the Jubilee Singers and to stand as leaders who provoke positive change in their community.
